The Eclipse Challenge
The stage on which the Alpine Skiing World Championships will be played out in 2023: the new black run ‘Eclipse’ opens this winter for all you aspiring champions!
On the start-line, you’ll need to steady your nerves as you contemplate the slopes which averages 30%. After launching into your descent, you’ll head straight for the forest, where, all of a sudden, the sun disappears…
A challenging few minutes of flying down the 940m vertical descent and you’ll arrive at the finish line, victorious, in the heart of the village of Courchevel Le Praz, where you’ll bask once again in the warmth of the sunshine and the feeling of pride, having conquered the Eclipse.

Vertical Experience - The steepest runs in Les 3 Vallées
At 38.6° at the steepest and with an average of 33°... You had better have nerves of steel when you commit to launching yourself down these two black runs! If you think you are ready to handle steep slopes, then head to the top of the iconic Saulire summit to try out the Grand Couloir (towards Courchevel) or the Couloir Tournier (towards Méribel): a sensational ride guaranteed!
What's new in the Freeride Lab ?
For the freeriders among you, Courchevel’s secure freeride sector keeps on growing… This season, no excuses for not practising your transceiver training: our new avalanche park is opening at the foot of the two ungroomed Freeride Lab pistes.
How does it work? Access to the Freeride Lab is 20 minutes on foot or ski touring. Snap some photos beside the wooden installation and head off into the powder for a magical descent! At the bottom, take some time to learn or practice your avalanche rescue skills.
Using your transceiver, probe and shovel, you can dig to find the beacons hidden beneath the snow. To train further, you can also specify the number of ‘victims’ to search for, and give yourself a time limit. Safety remains our upmost priority and this area is a great way to keep up with the training skills that could save lives.

New on the 'Piste des animaux"
The Piste des Animaux is a hidden gem in the forest near the Altiport, accessible to all. The interactive zones dotted along this green run will help you discover the creatures hiding in the forest using your 5 senses: identify ibex tracks, listen to a marmotte’s call or feel the soft coat of the chamois…
La Tania ski lift upgrades
For winter 2021 the La Tania bubble lift is set to be refurbished. It’s not a completely new lift but all the individual gondolas have been removed to either be refreshed or replaced completely.
Increased snow making capabilities
Courchevel also benefits from a stellar snowmaking system which produces well over 1 million m3 of snow each winter.
All of this snow needs reliable sources of water. You might not be able to see it come icy winter but this year there’s the addition of a new reservoir to store water for the snow guns. So as long as it’s cold, there will be snow.
